The Idea and Inspiration
Blue Hearts Project is an online storytelling platform, engaging survivors worldwide to share their stories of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Survivors can heal and feel liberated, while also helping to validate the experiences of others. These real-life stories allow others to better understand their own situations, see commonalities, feel less alone, and see a path to overcome and break free.
The initiative was inspired by the firsthand work of international speaker and activist, Ashley Bendiksen, who shares her story year-round as a survivor of abuse. Through her advocacy, many began to ask how they can share their story to help others too. Knowing the power of brave, open, and honest dialogue about abuse, she wanted to build a platform. Now is the time for change. Blue Hearts Project will facilitate this, encouraging survivors and bystanders alike to learn, speak out, and break the silence on abuse.
Meet the Founder
Ashley Bendiksen is the Founder of the Blue Hearts Project – an initiative that’s been inspired by her everyday work as an international speaker and award-winning activist on the topics of domestic violence, teen dating violence, and sexual assault. With her personal mission rooted in empowerment and social change, the Blue Hearts Project gives others the same chance to use their stories to heal, help others, and break the long-standing silence that keeps abuse alive. Despite years of victimization, adversity, homelessness, and dropping out of college, Ashley would rise to graduate as Class Valedictorian with a degree in justice studies, leading an accomplished career in victim services, advocacy, communications, and social justice.
